Edward J Whitney, Jr. (Ted) Edward J Whitney, Jr. (Ted) passed away November 10, 2002 at home, peacefully from complications of a prolonged illness. Ted was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 15, 1957, son of Edward J and Gloria Connor Whitney. He graduated, with honors, from Highland High School in 1975. He was head cheerleader, sang in both the madrigal and a capella choirs and swam on the swimming team. He attended the University of Puget Sound and received his BS in Geophysics in 1983. He also attended the University of Utah and received his BS in Geology in 1987, where he affiliated with the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He went on to have a successful career, through out the United States, as an Environmental Geologist. Ted married the light of his life, Marchia Asay on September 4, 1999. They lived in Sandy, UT and together were raising three wonderful children: Amy, Monica and Tyler. His father, Edward J. Whitney, preceded him in death. Ted is survived by his: wife, Marchia; sons Tyler and Dustin; step daughters Amy and Monica; mother Gloria; sisters and brother-in-laws Susan and John Ross (Salt Lake City), Barbara and Tom Doxey (Las Vegas); brother and sister-in-law Dick and Tracy Whitney (Draper) and 11 nieces and nephews who adored and cherished him. Ted found great joy in helping others and had a unique gift being able to make people laugh. He always had a warm smile and an uplifting thing to say to all. He was brilliant with computers and built many for those who couldn't afford them. He used his gift with computers to help his friends and family communicate. An E-mail from or a cyber-chat with Ted reminded us of what was important in life. He loved the outdoors, water skiing, snow skiing, golfing, fishing, hiking, swimming and music. He had a special place in his heart for the ocean, lighthouses, history and dogs. Ted had a great love for his Savior, who he walks with today. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Saturday November 16, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, UT.
