1957 - 1998


On October 30, 1998, Gordon Kirk Jensen returned home after suffering an apparent heart attack while sleeping. He leaves behind a multitude of friends and family whose lives were significantly touched by having known him. Gordon experienced many phases of life, living and loving each to the fullest. He was a wonderful human being who gave of himself generously.

Gordon was born on June 4, 1957 in LaJolla, California to Dr. Tom and Shirley Jensen. He attended school in Salt Lake City graduating from Highland High in l975 where he participated actively in sports, music and school functions. Gordon maintained many of the wonderful friendships established at Highland both with classmates and teachers. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New York City - Spanish from 1976-1978. On November 21, 1979 he married Kristine Peterson in the Salt Lake Temple. They were later divorced. He married Mary Jane Badger on June 11, 1994-later divorced. Gordon attended the University of Utah graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1981 where he served as Senior Ombudsman from 1980-1981. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity where again he established many life long friendships which he valued highly. Gordon graduated from the University College of Law in 1984 where he was a Leary Scholar. His law practice provided him with many different experiences. He loved teaching and participated in many career development programs providing mock trial demonstrations and experiences for both potential and actual law students. Gordon was always happiest in this environment. He was awarded Distinguished Young Lawyer of the Year in 1992 for recognition of distinguished service. Gordon chaired the law related Education Committee. He coordinated the People's Law Program, Law School for Non-Lawyers, and the High School Guest Lecture program. He also served as a delegate to the American Bar Association National Convention. He received the Scott Matheson award in 1995 for his contribution to Law related education in the state of Utah. He served in multiple capacities for the Young Lawyers section of the Utah State Bar and the planning board of the ABA Young Lawyers. He was a partner in the Law firm of Lehman, Jensen, Donahue at the time of his death.Gordon is survived by his parents; his two children, Nathan and Britton , who were the center of his life. Of all that he worked hard to contribute, he always felt Nathan and Britton were his greatest accomplishments. Sisters, Vicki Jensen Spuhler (Rick), Shauna Jensen Larson (John); brother, Steven (Michelle); nieces, Sarah, Erin, Jessica, Andrea, and Emily; and his nephews, Ryan and Eric, all who loved him dearly. The family expresses a special thank you to Janet Monson, his special sweetheart, who shared in his life these past few years and brought him great happiness.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, November 4, 1998 in the Cottonwood Heights Fourth Ward Chapel, 2522 East 6710 South. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, November 3rd from 6-8 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive and at the ward on Wednesday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
