Dirk Sprunt
Obituary
1957 - 1924
North Salt Lake, Utah - Dirk Ty Sprunt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on November 27, in his home. He did not pass peacefully, he passed with all the fight he had to give, and had been giving, for so long.
Dirk was an adventure and an adventurer. Jumping off cliffs or climbing them in a jeep; exploring pictographs and petroglyphs, and the State of Utah; loving, teaching and learning from his young students, even playing Santa to those families in need of Christmas help.
He loved good people, good food, good drink and living well.
Dirk loved music; listening live at the thousands of concerts he attended, on the stereo, or on the radio. All kinds of music from metal to classical, rock to blues, big band to solo acts.
Dirk loved sports, and of course, sports and stats went together. Always with some print out from which he could calculate some sport stat, especially baseball.
And the Utes! He loved his Utes: football, women's and men's basketball, baseball, softball, golf . . . Most of all, he loved his wife, his family and his friends. Oh, and Gio, his dog-of-dogs. He had a saying, "Good friends will bail you out of jail; best friends will be in the next cell."
Dirk was born to Barbara Young Wilson and Grant Sprunt, in SLC, Utah, on September 3, 1957. "It was the 3rd of September; that day I'll always remember" he would say. He married the love of his life, Brenda Flanders Sprunt, on June 15, 1996. He had one son, Mason Ty Sprunt (Maya), and one grandson, Noah Ty Sprunt.
He is survived by his son, daughter in law, grandson, his wife, his brother from a different mother, Neal Maughan (Tauni and Nathan), his brothers for life, Lynn Wilhelmsen and Terry Smith, our football and traveling soul mates, Lew and Bonnie Fischer, his sister, Robin Wood (Bruce), and many other friends, family, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, and his sister, Melody Pope, whom he loved dearly. Pursuant to his wishes, Dirk was cremated. We will hold a celebration of his life on December 28, 2024, 1:00 to 4:00, at our home. Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served.
