I lived on the next block North from Vernon and his family. Nice folks, really salt of the earth kind of people that would do anything for you... and Vernon was the best of the family as I knew them! Truly a great great guy with such potential! Always calm, and kind in spirit, and word. I remember mowing lawns with him for a buck or two back in the day, and then Vernon reading a lot in the shade after, all kinds of books and subjects, infact, I believe he introduced me to the magazine popular mechanics?

I remember Vernon training for distance running in highschool I think. He would circle the block something like 8-10 times, just loping along at at his pace, long legs eating up the miles!

As kids we would go down to the tracks and watch the afternoon train passed, Vernon loved trains, and would mimic the "whoooooot whooooooot" whistle to a tee.  He was always a good friend to me, I will miss seeing him at the reunion next year!

Blessing to his family!
